Countryside Meditation Retreat

An opportunity to deeply (re)connect with yourself through immersion in the practice of meditation!

Take this weekend to completely unplug and just be with yourself—to allow yourself to simply be as you are, however you are.  Kimberly creates an open, loving and yet safe space to explore and (re)discover your most authentic being.

The retreat will consist of sessions of meditation practice, along with the opportunity to ask questions, share experiences and learn from each other. We will also bring the mindfulness, awareness and spaciousness of meditation into whatever we are doing, whether sitting, walking outside, eating or even just enjoying a cup of tea!

The mornings will be in silence but there will also be times to just relax and enjoy being together.

Location

The retreat will take place in a beautiful old farmhouse in an historic part of East Holland. Surrounded by woods and meadows, the venue is located in a protected area of nature. This special and unspoilt environment is the ideal setting for a retreat, a place where the mind naturally settles and where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful and natural surroundings.

The farmhouse has been newly renovated in a contemporary style and has the perfect combination of lovely group spaces and private rooms.

The meditation sessions will take place upstairs in the loft, a unique space with wooden beams, lovely natural light and views out into the garden. Downstairs, there is also a cosy living room with fireplace and a lovely group dining area.

In total, the farmhouse has space for 18 participants: 12 bedrooms with 6 single rooms and 6 double rooms (two twin and four double bed rooms). Most rooms even have their own private shower. Toilets are shared.

For more details, see Droste's (Oerboerderij).

Food

We will be nourished with fresh and home cooked meals made with love by Davide, who is a great Italian cook. He will use the best and highest quality ingredients (organic wherever possible). Davide is also a long-term meditation practitioner and scholar of Buddhist philosophy, so you can also ask him questions! He will be a great presence in helping to hold the space of retreat.

Becoming Fully Embodied

Embodiment Workshop with Aafke van Sprundel & Kimberly Poppe

In our busy lives, it seems hard to be present in the moment. We are too distracted to feel the sensations in our bodies, to really connect to our emotions or to be aware of our thoughts as one follows after the other.  In this afternoon workshop, this is what we will explore. Embodying all of our being, as it is.

The main focus is simply to become more aware of physical sensations and our emotions through various different means. Sitting, moving, breathing, sounding. The atmosphere is an experiential one. We will explore together, and then share our experiences.

Kimberly and Aafke together build on decades of practice in either body or mind.

Cost €40

Exploring Perception: through Meditation & Photography

Meditation and photography share the same goal. To capture the freshness of the present moment. To find beauty in our everyday experience. To change the way we see the world.

This day-long workshop begins with a grounding in the practice of meditation, suitable for both experienced meditators and those who have never tried before.

After exploring how to use our sense of sight as a support for meditation, we will head out into the world to integrate that into our everyday experience with our cameras.

The day will include plenty of time for discussion, clarification and sharing our photographs, and we will end with a final meditation session.

What people have said about previous workshops:

"The workshop was very a wonderful way to perceive the world in a different way. The way you are assisted in the workshop is very inspiring. Beautiful meditation and exercises."

"This was a beautiful experience, bringing fresh inspiration how to see and how to take photographs, thank you for your heartwarming way of sharing your knowledge!"

"A real mind opener on how to look around you and capture what you experience in the present moment. Had a lovely day with like-minded people."

"A must to attend the workshop."

"10 out of 10!"

And, this is a blog by a previous participant (in both Dutch & English), describing her experience of the workshop.

Please bring a digital camera (or camera phone) and make sure you know how to use at least the automatic function, as the focus of the day is on being and seeing rather than technical instruction.

The workshop will be led by Kimberly Poppe and held in English.

Lunch is not included, but we will have a good break where people can have lunch out either as a group or individually.

Spaces are limited to ensure an enjoyable interactive experience.

In this weekend led by Kimberly Poppe, we will explore the practice of meditation in an interactive, fun and experiential way. The focus will be on self-discovery through meditation itself (practicing both formally and informally), along with plenty of time for questions and clarification.

We will also explore:
•    working with the senses (sight, sound, physical sensations) as a support to become more present and aware both in your meditation and your everyday life
•    how to cultivate a different relationship to your thoughts and emotions and come more into contact with your true self
•    how to establish a daily meditation habit at home, incorporating the latest and most effective advice from behavioural psychology
•    practical tips on how to integrate meditation into your everyday life

This weekend is suitable for complete beginners and it is also the perfect complement to Rigpa’s ‘What Meditation Really Is’ courses. However, long-term Rigpa students particularly enjoy this weekend as it is a way to really deeply focus on meditation practice itself. Many older students have remarked that they have made new discoveries about their mind and their practice through this workshop and they wished that they had done something like this before!

In this workshop we will learn some simple ways to help us stay present and relaxed, and begin to expand the feelings of love and connection that we have for those around us.

We will see how we can work with difficulties we have in our relationships with others, and explore how to show a bit more kindness to ourselves.

The Inner Peace Conference: Awareness Meditation

Strengthen your awareness of the present moment

Beyond all our cloud-like thoughts and emotions is a sky-like awareness that is always with us and is the essence of who we truly are. However, we are usually so caught up in ‘thinking’ and ‘doing’ that we often lose touch with this awareness, this sense of simply ‘being’. In this experiential workshop, we will explore practices of meditation to help us strengthen our awareness of the present moment—reconnecting us with ourselves, others and the world around us. The focus of the workshop will be on self-discovery through meditation itself, along with plenty of time for interaction and clarification.

In this interactive and practical workshop, we will explore how to cultivate more presence and awareness in our everyday lives, bringing more peace, joy, and freedom to our daily experience. First, we will discover how to establish a formal meditation practice, as a stable base or foundation for cultivating awareness. Then, we will explore how our everyday life can be permeated or infused with this awareness. This is when meditation becomes really powerful—when it to allows us to be aware of and to be able to simply be more with whatever is happening in our lives, pleasant or unpleasant, without being swept away by it and without blocking, supressing or pushing anything away.

About Kimberly Poppe

Kimberly has been immersed in Buddhist study and practice for the last 20 years. She has received personal instruction and training from some of the greatest Tibetan teachers of our time, and was encouraged to teach meditation. Kimberly leads meditation workshops and retreats around the world, including an annual gathering of top business leaders in Australia. She is also the co-founder of bodhi, an international community started in Amsterdam and dedicated to bringing a clear mind and an open heart into every aspect of our lives. Posthoornkerk

In middle of the old city center, at the lively Haarlemmerstraat, you’ll find one of the most important last standing 19th century churches of Amsterdam. The neogothic Posthoornkerk is a really magical place. The first stone was laid in September 1861. The three iconic towers were established in the same period that Vivekananda gave his famous speech during the conference in Chicago. Coincidence? We think not.

Why do we practice Inner Peace in a church?

Churches are designed to channel universal wisdom to the people. Their locations are always chosen with a clear mind, their energetic field functioning as the nadis of the city. These urban sanctuaries are charged with spiritual energy. By practicing inner peace in these sacred places, we tap into this energy. Here we can come in oneness with the universe and go beyond religion.

"The way Kimberly communicated reached in and opened my awareness. She conveyed such an atmosphere of acceptance and showed me how to work with my habits. An inspiring and loving presence."
